Gaberdines self-titled EP has got to
be one of the best releases from a band with a cello player
to come out in a long time and how often does one get
to say that? The brainchild of singer/songwriter mark Federighi,
the bands sparing use of guitars (both electric and
acoustic) and masterful mallet and brush use on the skins
gives Gaberdines music a very darkly melancholy feel
to it. Bethany Swains dramatic cello work and Federighis
haunting vocals only serve to add to the overall ambiance
of the EP.
