Chicago based gaberdine is a quiet
indie rock band that colors melodic, bittersweet songs with
lush textural sounds. The conception of mark federighi, gaberdine
creates artful music with subtle hooks and intriguing instrumentation.
After a well received debut EP and subsequent full length album, the band has recently released their latest LP, when we land to more critical acclaim.
Time Out Chicago “a great example of melancholy indie” ... “the logical outcome of good tasted and hushed restraint”
Red Eye/Metromix 3 out of 4 Stars / "Best New Music" pick
Illinois Entertainer “Engrossing, compelling”
beatcrave.com "powerful and intriguing listen"
thevinyldistrict.com “the kind of quiet indie rock that begs for the crackle of vinyl”... “intricate arrangements”... “each song is an experience.”
Hiawatha Review- “cinematic”... “full of epic adventures and personal pain”
loudlooppress.com “the sparkle and grace of fine orchestral pop, filled with plenty of drama and rising action. Frontman Mark Federighi enchants with his soulful sermon sung high over atypical equipment such as a harmonium, glockenspiel and autoharp.”
In when we land, gaberdine has produced its most mature, cohesive, and personal album to date. More than ever, leader Mark Federighi draws on lived experience in his songwriting. As a result, the nine song album encapsulates the emotions and difficulties inherent to interpersonal relationships and intrapersonal struggles.
Lyrically and musically these cathartic songs metaphorically reflect the scope of the subject matter… from sorrowful to hopeful. The arrangements span from extremely sparse moments of the solitary voice and guitar to swelling, enveloping layers of guitars, bass, percussion, keys, cello, horns, and various other instruments and experimental sounds.
